U11: Wildemore Relics

Supergirl sprints across the Wildemore on the Steed of Rhun
While continuing to review some of the changes that came with Update 11, it was brought to my attention that there is a new set of LI Relics! If this addition was mentioned in the Update notes, I and many others overlooked it.

So I don't have to recap the world of relics, I will pick up with a continuation from Part 1, Update-10: t9-and-eastemnet-relics, which explains how relics are named, how to get shards to make relics, gives a list all the T9 and Eastemnet relics and costs, and shows math behind why one would choose a Morale-based set of relics versus a Mastery-based set of relics.

New Wildemore Relics: So, in this "part 2", let's start with a picture of all the Wildemore relics that were added.

Each of these relics costs 3 specific T9 relics + 7488 shards. In that regard, it costs the same number of T9 relics to meld as the Eastemnet relics but the shard cost is more expensive (eastemnet relics were only 4992 shards). Granted, shards are very easy to obtain with a just a little planning (see rohan-shard-queen-master-of-relics).

The Eastemnet relics: To keep you from having to flip back and forth to see the Eastemnet relics, here is the same layout again.

Observation #1: The Eastemnet set also had True Relics. They cost more than either Eastemnet or Wildemore but depending on your build, they might have more impact.

Observation #2: The gain from Eastemnet to Wildemore relics is very small.

  • As always, for the percentage bonuses on the relic, those will always be the same regardless of the tier (for example, -2.5% attack duration is the same on Unique level 55 all the way through Wildemore relic).
  • The numerical bonus increase is similar to the increases between the various tier relics, which is just a gradual increment going up.

Barallas and Tithenolf perform the Y.M.C.A dance in Balewood.

Math from Part 1 - revisited for fun,

Max Morale: True Setting of the North, Eastemnet Gem of Hope, and True Rune of the Dark Wood. The only upgrade would be the Gem of Hope. Exchanging the Eastemnet for the Wildemore, morale would go up by +33. The cost would be 3 more T9 relics + 7488 shards.

Max MasteryTrue setting of the Three Hunters, True Gem of the Rising Moon, and Eastemnet Rune of Power. The Rune of Power would likewise be exchanged to gain +41 mastery and +2 fate (≈ 0.13% more damage and 0.01% more crit chance). Also, same cost of three T9 relics + 7488 shards.

A Cursed Oath-Breaker asks me whether Wildemore relics are worth the cost for an upgrade.

What would I choose?
I chose the True Setting of the North, Eastemnet Gem of Hope, and True Rune of the Dark Wood. (danania-85: RK Directory) though a number of the relics are fine choices. I don't want to spend the relics to get the Wildemore Gem of Hope now, but only because I already have my Eastemnet Gems of Hope.

In Part 1, I listed a good "Mixed set" that I would have considered, and if I did it again, I might have chosen True setting of the north, True Gem of the Rising Moon, and Wildemore Rune of Power.

For Settings, the "Endings" and both "True" relics are fine choices for RKs. Keep in mind that "+7.5% devastate magnitude" really means (all other things constant) your Devastate damage is now your base multiplied by 2.075, versus a normal 2.0. It sounds cooler as "+7.5% devastate magnitude" and can add up with big hits. Optimize your choices.

For Gems, the "Charity", "Hope", and both "True" relics are fine choices for RK.

For Runes, the "Power", "Wisdom", and both "True" relics are fine choices. Something I would never recommend is to get the T1 - T9 rune relics. None of those are worthy of a RK so this one is one area you would want to find good upgraded relics.

Update 10: T9 and Eastemnet Relics

Looking at some of the Update 10 changes... yeah, there were a lot of changes for Update 10 so I’m taking it apart one piece at a time. Scroll back over the articles from the past few weeks to see 1st Age LI bartering, Rohan Rings, New loot and Gear and instances, Mithril Coins and Hytbold, RK armor set comparisons, Virtues, and summarized U10 release notes.

Today, I will turn my focus on LI Relics. I wrote about them at Update 6 (update-6-relics-and-virtues) and then again when discussing shards (rohan-shard-queen-master-of-relicsand building a LI in Rohan (rohan-85-rk-building-li-weapon). Rohan was released since that Update 6 review and with Rohan came Tier 9 Relics and special Eastemnet (True) Relics. In the link, I showed that the relics were built on a pattern where each tier had similar relics and it wasn’t really a random collection of stuff.

Relic naming got smarter and now for Update 10, every standard relic was renamed to make it more obvious what the relics were and how the relic progression was laid out by naming similar relics of different tiers similarly with more obvious names. Granted, the designers are still more flowery than I am. For example, they still use a name like “Red Agate Gem of Fortune” (the T9 gem for Fate and Critical) and I probably would have called it something clever like “T9 Gem – Fate and Critical”. However, it is less wordy than its previous name, “Red Agate Gem of Untold Wonders”.

The naming convention now looks like this:
Setting of Will
Will + Mastery
Setting of Might
Might + Mastery
Setting of Morale
Morale + Mastery
Setting of Power
Power + Mastery
Gem of Endurance
Vitality + Critical
Gem of Dexterity
Agility + Critical
Gem of Fortune
Fate + Critical
Rune of Defence
Incoming Heal Rating + Block
Rune of Deflection
ICMR + Parry
Rune of Avoidance
ICPR + Evade

Tier 9 relics are reasonably easy to acquire. Three T8s combine to make a T9. Just keep plugging along acquiring relics and combining them and soon you will be rolling in relics. Until then, you will see that the T1 through T8 relics are all named similarly so you can get used to having certain relics with you.

If you don’t get the T9 relic you really wanted and you have a different T9, you can meld the one you want for 512 shards + 1 T9 relic. As in every tier, there are 4 Setting choices, 3 Gem choices, and 3 Rune choices. Note: I would never recommend any of these three rune choices for a RK (rune is the relic I vote most likely to upgrade to a special relic). Here are the T9 relics.

The fun continues when looking at the Eastemnet/True Relics. These are special relics available for level 80+ and usable only on LIs that are level 80+. The Eastemnet Relics are obtained by melding 3 specific T9 relics + 4992 shards. The True Relics are obtained by melding 4 non-specific T9 relics + 9984 shards. It might seem like a lot, but shards are really easy to get (refer to link, rohan-shard-queen-master-of-relics).

Similar to regular relics, these special relics have a sense of progression also in that you will find special relics at level 75, 70, and 65 (Westfold, Great River, Extraordinary). However, do realize that once you make a special relic, there really is no going back. They are not used in any other melding. Eventually, when it becomes obsolete, your only option is to Refine your special relic to shards. These are the Eastemnet and True Relics.

Relics are a high impact way to shift your abilities. Let’s look at a few examples.

Max Morale: The first example is the Relic set I chose at Update 9, which is a maximum Morale focus. One of the best ways for a RK to increase morale is to choose morale relics. Otherwise, with the gear that is available, a choice of taking a certain armor piece for its morale could have a huge impact on not getting other important aspects like Mastery or Critical. So, I chose True Setting of the North, Eastemnet Gem of Hope, and True Rune of the Dark Wood. So, what was its benefit of these three?

990 morale, 0 extra DPS Mastery, +1.7% Critical, 0 tact mit (+1.6% phys mit).

Max Mastery: Here is another example. What if I wanted to maximize Mastery? I might chose True setting of the Three Hunters, True Gem of the Rising Moon, and Eastemnet Rune of Power. The benefit?

0 Morale, +6% DPS Mastery, +0.5% Critical, +0.7% tact mit (+1.5% phys mit). And, +7.5% devastate magnitude.

A Mix: Since you have two LIs, you can push the limits even further. From above, on one hand, +2000 morale, or on the other, +12% DPS Mastery, or you could split the difference… and take max morale on one LI and max dps on the other LI.

A good blend of one set of three might be the True setting of the north, True Gem of the Rising Moon, and Eastemnet Rune of Power.

435 Morale, +4% DPS Mastery, +2.1% Critical, +0.7% tactical mitigation (+1.7% phys mit).

Cheaper alternative: Or, if you wanted to go cheaper, you could mostly avoid the Eastemnet True relics and stick with the T9 relics. Here is a set of three relics, two T9s and an Eastemnet (as mentioned, the standard rune choices are absolutely horrid for RKs and I cannot recommend getting any of those ever). With T9 Setting of Morale, T9 Gem of Endurance, and Eastemnet Rune of Power…

371 Morale, +3.8% DPS Mastery, +1.8% Critical, +0.6% tactical mitigation (+1.6% phys mit).

As you can see, there are multiple ways to bend the relic sets to do great things. What you don’t want to do is just randomly throw relics at your LIs. My best advice is to set a goal and work toward it! Happy Riding!

Rohan: Shard Queen, Master of Relics

The high end relics cost quite a bit of shards to be able to meld them. However, with a solid plan, you will have more shards than you could use for melding.

Useful relics and their costs:
Let’s look at some of the relics and their costs. I included some utility service stuff in the table as well.

Requirements to make certain Relics:
Relic
Melds
Shard cost
Tier 9
1 tier 9 relic

So, if the optimized solution for the best relics for you happens to be “True Eastemnet” relics for all three slots of Setting, Gem, and Rune, you will need nearly 30k shards for one LI. Hehe. That is a lot, but not nearly as much as it seems.

Dana, where did you get your shards?

Tomrica Relic Maneuver & Scrolls of Combination
I started with what was lying around. Tomrica wrote an article about how to turn your rusty dwarf tools, khuzdul tablets, and Bright Emblems of Nimrodel into relics.

So, I did that first. Each of those Fused Bronze relics from the rusty dwarf tools yielded around 10 tier 1 relics; and clearly I had a gob leftover from Moria. I will Combine them up to be something good. I had some additional relics hanging around because I often don’t bother to Combine them unless I have a goal and a plan.

Also, from a lottery, I had won several “Scroll of Combination”. I really like that item. It increases your Critical Success chance to 25% while combining relics at the relic forge. I shopped it on the lotro store and realized how much it cost. It is 795 TP for one scroll. Wowsers. I have also noted that it drops from some of the high end Raid loot, though I have not personally gotten one. It works really well, but you would have to really want it and be ready to use it for 15 minutes straight for increased relics and shards.

After doing the Tomrica Relic Maneuver along with the Scrolls of Combination, I had a worthy stockpile of relics and shards. Here is a table of how many relics of a certain tier are required to combine together to make relic(s) of the next level. I also included how many relics I had at each tier before and after Combine to show the effect of all these advancing toward T9 as well as the shard payout.

Unless I am specifically trying to keep a relic for some reason, I always use Auto Combine. Its critical chance is exactly the same as not-Auto Combine.

Note that even without a good critical Combine, it is still common to get more than one relic on a Combine. I won’t bother trying to do math on what my critical effect was… math is hard. ;)

Update: First feedback from a friend is that I need to point out that combining relics can get expensive. I think that one combine at T8 is mebbe 400s or so. Doing what I did in the table below could probably run in the tens of gold but I didn't track cost, sorry.

Crafted Relics
Where I really get most of my shards is from crafted relics! I have a whole team of Crafters on my payroll. Other than going to festival and hanging out around the house, crafting relics is primarily what the lildanas do! (meet the lil-danas

Five of them are crafters; they go from the vault where I deliver supplies, to the nearest crafting facility, and primarily just make crafted relics. When I rode to Rohan, they kept the wheels in motion by leveling up in their professions as I came across mats for them. rohan-begins-crafting-and-virtues-at-16

I cannot stress enough how low maintenance and high return the crafting team is. They are worth their big house on the river, draigoch-statue-lil-danas-moving-day, but don’t tell them that. I don’t want them to get too cocky and strike for better cosmetics or store horses or something.

What are these Crafted Relics worth?
I reviewed Crafted relics before Rohan. update-6-relics-and-virtues

It has changed slightly on the Device and there are two new crafted relics with the Eastemnet tier of Crafting. Here is an updated table of how many shards you can get per crafted relic.

Even my highest level lildana cannot handle the Bound crafted relics (because she cannot talk to the Relic-master and get them Refined). However, given a few minutes each day, they are quite adept at taking the mats I find off dead orcs and turning them into crafted relics which I turn into shards.

Before long, you too will be cranking out more shards than you need for melding. I don’t necessarily see myself spending 15k shards for a Riddermark Scroll of Empowerment when I could get one for a decent mark price at the skirmish guy, but you never know… let the crafters roll long enough and shards will seem a low-cost commodity. Supergirl, the Shard Queen, signing off until next time.
