Rohan: Shard Queen, Master of Relics

The high end relics cost quite a bit of shards to be able to meld them. However, with a solid plan, you will have more shards than you could use for melding.

Useful relics and their costs:
Let’s look at some of the relics and their costs. I included some utility service stuff in the table as well.

Requirements to make certain Relics:

Tier 9
1 tier 9 relic

Eastemnet
3 specific tier 9 relics
4,992

3 tier 4 relics (any of them)

So, if the optimized solution for the best relics for you happens to be “True Eastemnet” relics for all three slots of Setting, Gem, and Rune, you will need nearly 30k shards for one LI. Hehe. That is a lot, but not nearly as much as it seems.

Dana, where did you get your shards?

Tomrica Relic Maneuver & Scrolls of Combination
I started with what was lying around. Tomrica wrote an article about how to turn your rusty dwarf tools, khuzdul tablets, and Bright Emblems of Nimrodel into relics.

So, I did that first. Each of those Fused Bronze relics from the rusty dwarf tools yielded around 10 tier 1 relics; and clearly I had a gob leftover from Moria. I will Combine them up to be something good. I had some additional relics hanging around because I often don’t bother to Combine them unless I have a goal and a plan.

Also, from a lottery, I had won several “Scroll of Combination”. I really like that item. It increases your Critical Success chance to 25% while combining relics at the relic forge. I shopped it on the lotro store and realized how much it cost. It is 795 TP for one scroll. Wowsers. I have also noted that it drops from some of the high end Raid loot, though I have not personally gotten one. It works really well, but you would have to really want it and be ready to use it for 15 minutes straight for increased relics and shards.

After doing the Tomrica Relic Maneuver along with the Scrolls of Combination, I had a worthy stockpile of relics and shards. Here is a table of how many relics of a certain tier are required to combine together to make relic(s) of the next level. I also included how many relics I had at each tier before and after Combine to show the effect of all these advancing toward T9 as well as the shard payout.

Unless I am specifically trying to keep a relic for some reason, I always use Auto Combine. Its critical chance is exactly the same as not-Auto Combine.

Note that even without a good critical Combine, it is still common to get more than one relic on a Combine. I won’t bother trying to do math on what my critical effect was… math is hard. ;)

Update: First feedback from a friend is that I need to point out that combining relics can get expensive. I think that one combine at T8 is mebbe 400s or so. Doing what I did in the table below could probably run in the tens of gold but I didn't track cost, sorry.

Crafted Relics
Where I really get most of my shards is from crafted relics! I have a whole team of Crafters on my payroll. Other than going to festival and hanging out around the house, crafting relics is primarily what the lildanas do! (meet the lil-danas)

Five of them are crafters; they go from the vault where I deliver supplies, to the nearest crafting facility, and primarily just make crafted relics. When I rode to Rohan, they kept the wheels in motion by leveling up in their professions as I came across mats for them. rohan-begins-crafting-and-virtues-at-16

I cannot stress enough how low maintenance and high return the crafting team is. They are worth their big house on the river, draigoch-statue-lil-danas-moving-day, but don’t tell them that. I don’t want them to get too cocky and strike for better cosmetics or store horses or something.

What are these Crafted Relics worth?
I reviewed Crafted relics before Rohan. update-6-relics-and-virtues

It has changed slightly on the Device and there are two new crafted relics with the Eastemnet tier of Crafting. Here is an updated table of how many shards you can get per crafted relic.

Even my highest level lildana cannot handle the Bound crafted relics (because she cannot talk to the Relic-master and get them Refined). However, given a few minutes each day, they are quite adept at taking the mats I find off dead orcs and turning them into crafted relics which I turn into shards.

Before long, you too will be cranking out more shards than you need for melding. I don’t necessarily see myself spending 15k shards for a Riddermark Scroll of Empowerment when I could get one for a decent mark price at the skirmish guy, but you never know… let the crafters roll long enough and shards will seem a low-cost commodity. Supergirl, the Shard Queen, signing off until next time. Tomrica’s Tips : The Wanderer, Part 2

Oh hi there!  This is Tomrica Everton once again - “wandering” back to you after collecting my map and notes (wanderer-part-1).  Today, we will complete our adventures with explorer extraordinaire  Dewitt, and his trusty, mighty steed Floid.  Last time if you remember, we followed these two primarily around areas in Eriador.  This time, will head east, into the lands of Rhovanion...

The Endless Stair, north of Jazârgund, Moria
Floid & Dewitt are cultured!  Besides appreciating the outdoor landscape, how could you not appreciate the majesty and craftsmanship of the dwarves of Moria?  The bridge is currently out, so our friends are on the cliff’s edge to the east.  Once again, watch out for the edge fellow wanderers - we do not want any incapacitations due to misadventure!  [2.6S, 105.9W]

Northern bank of the Celebrant, Nanduhirion (Dimrill Dale), Lothlórien
The Golden Wood, the heart of the Elves in Middle-earth and home to the fair Galadhrim and The House of Celeborn.  What a site and a site not to be missed!  Fearing the elves would not appreciate them drinking on the bridgeway to Caras Galadhon, we find our friends on a lofty cliffside perch overlooking the woods and the Celebrant river.  Truly an extraordinary view! [14.4S, 74.8W]

Ashenslades, Mirkwood
And Bilbo wanted to come back here?  I find that rather odd as it is quite dark and infested with foul creatures.  Maybe he meant another area of this dank forest, but where?  I can’t see anything on the horizon - it’s like pea soup out here!  I guess this is as good of a spot as any to get your bearings and tip one back.  Don’t muddle your wits too much though, as the paths around here can be confusing...  [17.5S, 46.2W]

And thus, returing to the Shire, ends our little adventure for this time.  Apparently, after visiting Floid and Dewit in all these locations, people started calling me “the Wanderer” too.  I wonder why that is - do I have some sort of name tag floating above my head?  I’m trying to see if something is there, but I just don’t bend backwards that way!  Pfft, probably nonsense anyways.  Until next time good free peoples - wander safely, and may the road and your adventures go ever on and on...  ~ T ~

Tomrica’s Tips : The Wanderer, Part 1

Hello again!  This is Tomrica Everton once more - hobbity burglar, pie-maven, breakfast connoisseur, and general Shireling flibbertigibbet at your service!  Today, we’re gonna talk about wandering, and the interesting folks you find out and about in Middle-earth.

You know, being an adventurer, you meet many a fellow adventurers along the way.  How do you think I met my good friend Danania - by staying tethered to the Party Tree?  Heavens no!  We both get out into the land and explore.  However, in one of our recent chats over pie and tea, I was surprised to learn that Danania had never ran into fellow explorer Dewitt, and his mighty steed Floid.

Floid & Dewitt are true explorers.  Not only have they travelled far across the land, they also find some real interesting spots to stop, relax, have a drink, and take in the view.  They do have some specific locations they like to frequent often, as they are extra special.  Perhaps you’d like to go raise a glass with them?  You would?  I knew you would!  I know Danania wants to, so let me help you good people in tracking them down.  Please be careful!  Some of these locations can be dangerous for young adventurers...

Weathertop, Lone Lands
Think Floid & Dewitt would miss Weatherstock or the view towards Rivendell from the edge of Amon Sul?  Think again!  Watch out for the edge, it is a long way down!  Hey Floid, eyes off my hat - it’s not for eating!  [31.3S, 36.6W]

Near Tyl Ruinen, Evendim
Hey, you can see my house from here!  Hah, just kidding - it’s Tyl Annûn in the city of Annúminas, the original capital of the Kingdom of Arnor.  Ummm say Dewitt... did Floid swim all the way out to this island?  He truly is mighty indeed... [14.2S, 73.5W]

Thrór's Coomb, Enedwaith
Dodging giants, evil men, and baby drakes - what have I got myself into!  Now it smells like dragon breath around here as well - bleck! ick! cough!  Oh well, it is a nice view you have here.  Plus, there’s no dragons around here anymore right?  Dewitt?   [68.6S, 8.4W]

Hidden in the Pristine Glade, Dunland
Talk about hidden spots!  And through the stinky Dunbog as well.  As soon as you enter the cave, cross the bridge and cut left up a small hill and through some vines.  This overlook is perfect for quiet stargazing.  You have enough ale in those kegs for secondsies for me too right?  [85.4S, 25.7W]

Hrmmmm, it seems I’ve left my notes on the other locations back at home.  How unprepared of me - please forgive me gentle reader!  I shall dash home at once and retrieve them!  Stay tuned for (wanderer-part-2)...
