Steed of Spring Gardens and pet Shrews!

Supergirl rides the Steed of Spring Gardens (dyed Rose)

Oh-ho! 2014 and another Spring Festival cometh! Spring Festival holds a dear place for me because it was the first event that was in progress when I arrived in Celondim those many years ago. At the time, I was such a noob; I had amassed 7 Spring Leaves for barter and had no idea how one could earn so many. I didn't realize that the quests were so repeatable and I could come back the next day and do them again! Live and learn.

This year's festival has many of the things that were available at previous spring festivals.
Here are a few links to previous Spring Festivals:
2013 spring-festival-goodies,
2013 spring-lussuin-warsteed & spring-festival,
2012 spring-shrews-shrews-shrews,
2012 steed-of-jester-and-others.

The new things for this year's festival include 3 new cosmetic outfits, the new horse and warsteed cosmetic, and pet Shrews! Oh yes, pets are in vogue apparently now, lol! There is one huorn from Fangorn (which I haven't gotten yet because I have been festivalling since Fangorn was released), 6 chicken from Hobnanigan's (hobnanigans-fun), and now 4 shrews from this Spring Festival.

Shrew Pets: I'm still working on getting all of the shrews. They are random rewards. (1) The Spotted Shrew is a random drop from Flower Patch nodes while doing the Flower Quest, (2) The Plain Shrew is a random reward from the Shrew Quest, (3) The Dusty Shrew is a random reward from the Maze tweens Quest, and (4) The Large Shrew is a random reward from the Enormous Shrew Quest. As you may have read from me before, I am not a fan of random rewards. On the bright side, the rewards are "Tomes" that can be traded, so you can trade/sell/buy Shrew Tomes you want/don't want.

I would guess that the Spotted Shrew is the easiest to obtain since you have several hundred chances at picking up Flower Patch nodes within the hour long quest, and the other quests are once/9 minutes, once/day, and once/9-min-if-you-win-enormous-quest. I neglected to take a picture of the two shrews I've gotten so far, so Danaish shows off her Spotted Shrew here. He looks very happy that Danaish always carries food on-hand.

Note that the pet can be renamed with the command /cpet rename <name>

Steed of Spring Gardens: Horse time! The horse costs 40 Spring Leaves. It is very easy to barter with a little time at the Shrew stomping area.
The horse for the 2014 Spring Festival is called the Steed of Spring Gardens. Good name. Here he is. He is a pretty dapple grey pattern.

Steed of the Spring Gardens
Warsteed of Spring Gardens (aka Trellis-weave) - Default: Breaking with tradition of naming the warsteed cosmetic similar to the actual horse, this spring's warsteed cosmetic is called "Trellis-weave". Yes, this is the one that looks like the horse. The one-piece Trellis-weave Caparison is very very easy to barter at only 20 Spring Leaves. Here it is in Default colors.

Trellis-weave - Crimson, dark chestnut hide, black chestnut hair:
The Trellis-weave dyes very well so take your pick on which color you like. Here is Crimson with a few browns for the horse.

Trellis-weave - Sea Blue, dun hide, liver chestnut hair:
Here is another look with lighter colors.

Trellis-weave - Rose, light grey hide, steel grey hair:
Ok, I just realized that I didn't exactly go diverse between light and dark colors and kept gravitating to lighter colors, but they do look snazzy. :)

Trellis-weave - Gold, sorrel hide, seal brown hair:
Oooh. Ok, yes, the Draigoch statue offset the picture nicely, but I do like the gold and sorrel and the seal brown hair which looks very golden!

Spring Festival lasts until June 3rd so there is plenty of time to get any horses you desire and possibly rack up some shrew pets, cosmetics, and other goodies. Have a great time and I'll see you soon! :)

Spring Festival Goodies

When I was a younger elf, as festivals arrived, I would take a vacation from questing and adventuring and spend time soaking in everything there was to do at festival. Now, as a slightly older elf… I find that I do the same. :D My two 2012 posts that went into more detail about the events of Spring festival (including Shrews, Flowers, Maze, Bullroarer’s Run) are at Steed-of-jester and Spring-shrews-shrews-shrews!.

For certain, Spring festival has a lot of goodies to acquire! Looking at the list from the vendor, I think that everything that has ever been available during Spring festival might still be there, minus all the horses from every year. For interest, this article will be a check list of all the goodies.

New goodies for 2013 include Warsteed Cosmetics, a Horse, 4 Cosmetic pieces, 3 Cook recipes.

There are two barter places for Spring festival: the Bree flower guy and the Spring Rewards Vendors (who are in the festival dance areas). All the vendors, not the flower guy, have the same goodies. There is so much stuff available from the Spring Rewards Vendor that I will break the list into (1) Horses, (2) Cosmetics, (3) Craft Recipes, (4) Housing and Yard, (5) Misc Emotes and Consumables.

Goodies from the Bree Flower guy:
The Flower guy’s list is fairly short. He has 2 pieces of Lissuin Warsteed cosmetics, the Steed of the Jester (which was found only in the random boxes last year), and 3 gift boxes. The gift boxes have random stuff in them, including the low tier cook tart recipes and other forgettable odds-and-ends. The gift boxes also have randomly available a FULL set of Lissuin Cosmetics and the Steed of the Jester. I have no idea what the odds are because I avoid random if I can help it.

Spring Rewards Vendor (Horses):
The other two pieces of the Warsteed are bartered with Spring Leaves. The 2013 horse is the Lissuin; the 2012 horse is the Simbelmyne. You can see all of the festival steeds at All the Steeds /festival-steeds. The Lissuin Warsteed pictures were in the article last week at Spring-lissuin-warsteed.

The three cook recipes listed here are new. They are tarts for the top three tiers. The lower tier recipes can be found as fairly common random loot in the flower gift boxes mentioned above.
The farmer potted flower recipes make housing decoration items.

Spring Rewards Vendor (Housing and Yard):
So many housing items… so little house.

Good-to-know information for these 4 maps: These four maps are part of a “map collecting deed”. You don’t have to keep the map; you only have to hold it in inventory a moment to advance the deed. The maps are not bound. The deed completion has rewards, including ~10 TP. These four maps are only available during Spring. Each festival has maps that contribute toward the deed. The maps have been around for more than a year so it is likely someone might have a map that you can borrow to help finish the deed.

Spring Rewards Vendor (Misc Emotes and Consumables):
Yeah… a few things didn’t fit neatly into the previous categories.

At Anniversary festival, there were scholar recipes to make fireworks. A material requirement is “Piles of Mysterious Powder”. It would be simpler to just buy the fireworks from a vendor for a few silver. However, to be fair, fireworks are only sold during Anniversary festival so if you absolutely had to have fireworks now and no one would give you stockpiled ones, this is one way to get them.

DRAGON and Doom-shrooms are both consumable deeds. Consume 300 of these and you can learn the emote/action as a permanent skill.

Sack of Petals throws petals at your target; this version is a permanent reusable sack in your inventory. It is also available as a deed reward during Yule festival.

Springfest Brew Mug is a force emote on those around you. This one is not a consumable deed like the previous ones.

Extra Delicious Tasty Biscuits, when used, open up a fortune, like a fortune-cookie. The item is a piece of paper in your inventory. There are 50 fortunes total and make up 5 deeds of 10 fortunes each. The fortunes are not Bound and can be traded. Once held in inventory the deed advances. Look to your friends and the AH if you are embarking on trying to get the 50 randomly selected fortunes for deed. Each deed rewards a special title.

Cold Fish grants the emote /fishslap

Slapper Fish is a weapon slotted item. It looks like a fish.
